ARQIS establishes tax practice

23. April 2018

As of June 2018 ARQIS Rechtsanwälte will establish a dedicated practice for tax law, in particular tax related transaction structuring advice. ARQIS is pleased to announce that Christian Wegener will join the Dusseldorf office of the firm as a partner. The 35-year-old qualified tax adviser and business graduate is a specialist in international tax law and will join ARQIS from Linklaters.

The starting team at ARQIS also includes Mauritz von Einem, who will join ARQIS as Managing Associate at the Munich office in May. He moves from the Hamburg office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

“We are very pleased to have found an excellent professional for the development of our tax structuring practice with Mr. Wegener”, says Dr. Jörn-Christian Schulze, Head of the M&A and Private Equity practice at ARQIS. “The firm’s focus is increasingly on larger transactions and restructurings, and this is where a standalone tax team is a necessary complement to our proven network partners.”

Christian Wegener studied Business Administration and was appointed as tax advisor in 2011. He began his professional career in 2008 at Ernst & Young. From 2011 he worked at Linklaters in Dusseldorf.

Above all he is experienced in structural advice on transactions, joint ventures and corporate restructuring. He was a member of the Linklaters team which advised Erste Abwicklungsanstalt (EAA) on the liquidation of WestLB’s assets. This included, for example, the sale of Westdeutsche Immobilien-Bank AG (WestImmo) to Aareal Bank. He also advised thyssenkrupp AG on the planned merger of its steel business with Tata Steel.

With the latest additions, ARQIS is growing to around 45 professionals.
