ARQIS advises Hamamatsu on entry into Menlo Systems GmbH

28. January 2019

ARQIS advised Hamamatsu Photonics Deutschland GmbH on the acquisition of a minority interest in Menlo Systems GmbH, based in Planegg (Landkreis München). Hamamatsu Photonics Deutschland and Menlo Systems hope that the investment will provide synergies for the development of new applications and new markets, as their product lines almost do not overlap.

Menlo Systems is a leading developer and worldwide supplier of instruments for precision metrology. The company was founded in 2001 as a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics with the aim of commercializing optical measurement technologies and making them available for industrial and research applications. With 17 years of experience and more than 100 employees, Menlo is now firmly established in the market for precision laser technology.

“We look forward to working with Menlo Systems to develop measurement and spectroscopy systems that can be used by our OEM customers,” said Dr. Reinhold Guth, Managing Director of Hamamatsu Photonics Germany. “Hamamatsu’s worldwide reach will allow us to bring our technology to a broader customer base, including both end users and manufacturers,” added Dr. Michael Mei, CEO of Menlo Systems.

Hamamatsu Photonics is a leading global manufacturer of optoelectronic components and systems. Headquartered in Hamamatsu City, Japan, the company was founded in 1953 and has seven offices worldwide. The Hamamatsu Photonics Deutschland (HPD) subsidiary has been located in Herrsching am Ammersee, just outside Munich, since 1986, but the German subsidiary was founded in 1973 in Hechendorf/Seefeld, Bavaria. With around 90 employees, supported by a sales office in Geldern and offices in Denmark, the Netherlands and Poland, HPD currently serves the entire German-speaking region – except Switzerland – as well as Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia.
