ARQIS advises SkyFive AG on Pre-Series A financing round

02. December 2020

ARQIS has advised SkyFive AG on its Pre-Series A financing round, led by a major German investor. This first institutional investor joined the existing investors, who all doubled their initial investment, and were joined additionally by two industry icons: Louis Belanger-Martin, serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Global Eagle, and Alain Lejeune, a seasoned executive from the telecommunications industry with strong roots in China.

SkyFive provides high-speed broadband services for the aviation industry, based on its patented Air-To-Ground (A2G) solution that leverages standard mobile network components. A2G is the only technology that can meet the ever-increasing demand for broadband connectivity in the sky. Here, broadband connectivity is a key factor to improve operational efficiency, generate ancillary revenue, and provide a safe and touchless travel experience.

SkyFive’s A2G solution is already in commercial operation in all of Europe. Most recently, SkyFive signed an agreement with Airbus in August to provide an A2G solution for China, which meanwhile has become the largest air traffic market. The investments in the current financing round enables SkyFive to scale up its service operations and accelerate the global expansion.

The ARQIS team led by Prof. Dr. Christoph von Einem and Dr. Mauritz von Einem has already advised SkyFive on the acquisition of the core assets of the A2G business division from Nokia as well as the seed financing round at the end of last year. Prior to the latest financing round ARQIS advised in summer 2020 on the conversion of SkyFive into a stock corporation. Currently ARQIS is also handling the negotiations with several international institutional investors for a Series A financing round which SkyFive intends to close early 2021.
